Making the announcement during a round-table discussion held at the NHT’s New Kingston offices on Wednesday, Cecile Watson, the company’s managing director, said the award, valued at $300,000, is in collaboration with the Press Association of Jamaica (PAJ), and will be presented over a three-year period.

She presented a letter of commitment to that effect to Jenni Campbell, president of the PAJ, during the forum.

“The first award will be made in 2012, and it will relate to work published during the period October 2011 to September 2012. The recipient will be a journalist who, within the review year, publishes pieces of original work, which reflect outstanding thought, research, analysis, and investigation of issues related to affordable housing and/or sustainable development. The criteria and details of the award, names of the judges and invitations for entries will be advertised in conjunction with the PAJ,” she outlined.

In her response, Campbell said the PAJ’s membership and, by extension, the Media Association Jamaica Ltd, are committed to providing information that can assist persons in making decisions regarding their living standards.

“I believe that the NHT has played a vital role, in this regard, over the years, and it really is our pleasure to work with the NHT to ensure that information continues to be made available to all, so that those various objectives can be met. We (PAJ) will ensure that the information goes out, and that our members vie and qualify to receive this valuable award,” Campbell assured.
